1. What is Underfloor Heating?
This is most modern means of generating Radiant Heating (For Indoors as well as Outdoors). Because the Heating Medium i.e. the cables; are laid under the floor; at the time of construction; this is called Underfloor Heating.
2. What form of heating is it?
This is Radiant Heating. The floor itself becomes the heating block and radiates heat in all directions, thereby heating the objects all around and the space as well.
3. What is the medium of heating in Underfloor Heating?
Heating is obtained by very special "Self Regulating Heating Cables" designed and made for this purpose only.
4. What fuel / energy does it use?
It runs on electricity.
5. Does it burn oxygen / create suffocation?
Absolutely not. The air quality of the heated space does not change except temperature.
6. How is it installed?
Explained in detail on our 'Underfloor Heating Explained' page.
7. How does it heat?
Upon switching on; the cable produces heat; which heats up the floor; which in turn heats up the room.
8. How much temperature does it achieve?
There are different grades of cables for different temperature requirements; but for human comfort; a temperature of around 22° C is sufficient. The cable can achieve upto 30 - 35° easily.
9. How can one control the temperature?
The temperature can be adjusted just with a touch provided on the Thermostat. The actual temperature is constantly displayed on the thermostat.
10. What is the safety level / safety against accidents / damage etc.?
These heating cables are extremely safe. These are special heating cables in which electrical conductors which are copper and the heating medium which is Polymer Graphite are different. They have a very specific property that the resistance of the heating material increases with the increasing temperature and at a certain value; they trip altogether. That is why these cables are called "Tracing Cables" or "Self Regulating Cables". Therefore; there is no chance of cable getting overheated or getting damaged. Plus there are layers of insulation, armour and outer cover. The free ends and cold connection ends are effectively sealed with high quality material and sophisticated processes. These cables have many safety certifications including electrical, mechanical and water submergence. There is absolutely no doubt over the safety factor of Underfloor Heating Cables.
11. Can it be installed in wet areas like bathrooms / kitchens etc.?
It is specifically suited for wet areas and can be installed without any fear. Actually, it is even more popular for bathrooms than the dry areas like bed rooms.
12. How much electricity does it consume?
The system is designed according to ambient winter temperature conditions of the region where it is to be installed. Therefore; the electricity consumption would be different in different regions viz. plains and high hills or snowy areas. But a normal consumption can be taken between 120 - 185 Watts / Square meter of the floor covered. However; this will be the consumption at COLD START. Once the system has achieved the required temperature; the power consumption would drop to approximate one third.
13. Does the price vary according to different weather locations?
Yes; it does. Heating Systems in colder areas cost more.
14. Does it have a standard Per Square Foot price?
No; there is no standard per square foot price. In fact; every requirement is studied individually and customised system and price is offered.
15. For how long will it maintain the heat of the room if electricity goes off?
Like all other radiant heat sources; it will take its own time to cool off; which could be 5 - 6 hours after the electricity goes off. Further; for how long the room temperature remains comfortable also depends upon the insulation like false ceiling / wall panelling etc. done in the room.
16. There are areas with frequent power cuts. What is the solution for those areas?
The best solution is to have a stand-by generator.
17. Is it required to be installed under the area covered by furniture also?
No; it is not required under the area covered by the furniture.
18. Does it require any maintenance?
No, this is a 100% Maintenance Free installation.
19. What is the life of these Underfloor Heating Cables?
This is a very sturdy product and is expected to last real long times. However; Danfoss offers a 20 Years guarantee on all its underfloor heating cables.
20. Is the installation to be done at customer end?
No; we depute expert installers for every customer; whatever the size of the order or the physical distance of the site from our location.
